At most clients' homes, Sampler avoids using rat traps that confine the rodents in a cage. Instead, he has trained his dogs to locate and kill the pests. In another house, a cat brought a rat inside, leading to the critter getting trapped in a bedroom, Sampler mentioned. He brought his dogs to track down the rat, which then attempted to hide in a nightstand drawer.

Sampler advises people to take preventive measures, starting in the garden. "It's better to prevent rats from entering the house rather than looking for solutions once they're already inside," he told Metro. "Winter is a crucial period for rats. They love garden waste, so make sure to clean up properly. Also, ensure there's no pet food in the yard."
