washington - The US presidential candidate Donald Trump has once again narrowly escaped a suspected assassination attempt. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in West Palm Beach, Florida, while Trump was playing golf at his Trump International Golf Club.

The suspect was spotted by a Secret Service agent carrying a weapon and scope in a thicket on the golf course. The agent was scouting the route of the former president and was two holes ahead. After shots were fired at him, the suspect fled in a car.

He was later arrested based on a witness tip who saw the man get into a car. The suspect is reported to be a 58-year-old man from Hawaii who expresses support for 'leftist causes' on social media.

The FBI, leading the investigation, described it as an 'apparent assassination attempt' on the Republican. During a press conference, authorities revealed the discovery of a weapon, a backpack, a bulletproof vest, and a GoPro camera. It is speculated that the man intended to film his act with the camera but did not fire any shots himself.

Trump issued a statement saying he is 'safe and unharmed.' President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the incident and Harris expressed relief that her political rival is safe, emphasizing that 'there is no place for violence in America.'

In July, Trump was targeted in an attack in Butler, Pennsylvania, during a campaign event. A 20-year-old shooter fired eight shots at the Republican, injuring him in the ear. A Secret Service sharpshooter killed the assailant.

Following that assassination attempt, the Secret Service faced criticism for inadequate security. After Sunday's incident, criticism arose over the lack of road closure near the golfing location. However, the swift response by the security service responsible for protecting politicians was praised.

Security measures around Trump have been heightened following reports of an Iranian assassination plot. President Biden is also reportedly a target of Tehran. Iran has strongly denied these allegations.
