MiG crashes near Turkish-Syrian border

ankara/damascus - A Syrian fighter type MiG-23 crashed Saturday near the border with Turkey. The pilot was able to leave the plane probably using his ejector seat ahead of time and may have ended up in Turkish territory. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has let know that Ankara has begun a search.

The cause of the accident is not known. The bad weather may have played a role. The Syrian army confirmed contact with the jet, which carried out a reconnaissance flight, to be lost. The army has sent reinforcements to the border region to find the pilot and to investigate the circumstances.
