london - Europe's first major region in the world free of malaria. The World Health Organization (WHO) announced Wednesday it has reported no indigenous cases of the dreaded disease in 2015. ,, This is a milestone in the history of health care in Europe and in fighting malaria entirely to helping the world '', said European WHO Director Zsuzsanna Jakab. Strong political commitment, improved detection methods and cross-border cooperation to include the fight against mosquitoes and prevent reintroduction by world travelers have ensured that success.

Globally, there is every reason for concern, with last year's cases still 214 million. The epidemic took in 2015 438. 000 people died, most of them in Africa south of the Sahara. The aim is to eradicate malaria for 2030.
