34 Female Prisoners in Iran Go on Hunger Strike to Commemorate Mahsa Amini's Death

tehran - In an Iranian prison, 34 female prisoners have gone on hunger strike to commemorate the mass street protests against the regime that erupted two years ago. The strike was organized by the foundation of Narges Mohammadi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

In an Iranian prison, 34 female political prisoners in Evin Prison have initiated a hunger strike on Sunday to commemorate the second anniversary of the Women, Life, Freedom movement and the death of Mahsa 'Jina' Amini,

In 2022, mass protests broke out in Iran following the death of Amini, a young woman who was arrested for allegedly wearing her hijab improperly. Authorities deny that the 22-year-old Amini was a victim of police violence.

52-year-old Mohammadi has been imprisoned in Evin Prison in Tehran since November 2021 for 'crimes against the state'. She has spent a significant portion of the past decade in prison and has gone on hunger strikes multiple times.
