Mother Finds Daughter Six Years After Being Told Baby Died in Fire
philadelphia - A mother reunites with her daughter after believing she had died in a house fire, only to discover the truth six years later.
An unbelievable story unfolds when Luzaida Cuevas, a Puerto Rican-American mother, reunites with her daughter Delimar after authorities told her the newborn had died in a fire. Six years later, at a party, Luzaida suspects a girl to be her long-lost daughter and a DNA test confirms her suspicions. The new docuseries highlights the heart-wrenching tale of a ruthless kidnapping that shattered lives.
In December 1997, just ten days after Luzaida Cuevas gave birth, a fire ravaged her house in Philadelphia. Despite being told Delimar died in the fire, as her body was never found, Luzaida held onto hope that her baby was alive. She had noticed the empty crib and the open window in her baby's room during the chaos of the fire, leading her to believe her baby was kidnapped.
Luzaida's pleas to authorities fell on deaf ears, with insufficient evidence to support her claims. It wasn't until six years later, at a family gathering, that Luzaida spotted a girl who she believed to be her daughter. Taking matters into her own hands, Luzaida collected the girl's hair for a DNA test which ultimately proved the girl's true identity.
The kidnapper, Carolyn Correa, an in-law of Delimar's father, had orchestrated the fire to conceal her actions. Raising the child as her own, the girl, named Aaliyah, lived only 25 kilometers away from her real mother the entire time. The emotional rollercoaster ended when Aaliyah was reunited with her biological family, leaving behind the woman who had posed as her mother.
