Estonian Military Launches Operation to Protect Undersea Power Cable Estlink 1
tallinn - The Estonian military has launched a naval operation to protect the undersea power cable Estlink 1 in response to the damage of another undersea electricity cable between Estonia and Finland.
The Estonian military has initiated a marine operation to safeguard the undersea power cable Estlink 1. This decision comes in the wake of damage to another undersea electricity cable linking Estonia and Finland.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna expressed the country's commitment to defending and securing its energy connection with Finland by deploying the navy closer to Estlink 1. He warned of Estonia's response if the undersea infrastructure faces further threats.
Last Wednesday, the power cable Estlink 2 suffered damage, along with several internet cables. Finland has launched an investigation into the vessel Eagle S suspected of involvement in the incident. It is believed that the Eagle S is part of the so-called Russian shadow fleet, which aims to circumvent international sanctions.
Estlink 1 and 2 serve as important cable connections between Finland and Estonia, facilitating the exchange of electricity between Norway and the Baltic states.
