More and More American Schools Ban Crocs Due to Safety Concerns
united states - An increasing number of schools in the United States are banning Crocs due to safety reasons. Find out why in this unbiased news article.
More and more American schools are banning Crocs due to safety concerns, as reported by Bloomberg. The clunky shoes are causing students to trip and fall more often. Dozens of schools across twelve states have implemented this ban. In addition to the higher risk of falling, teachers have complained that students also use Crocs to throw at each other. A school in Atlanta has now enforced a rule that all shoes must be 'safe', explicitly stating 'No Crocs' in their regulations.
Bloomberg also reported an incident in New York where a child got injured when a sandal got stuck in an elevator, resulting in eight stitches on her shin.
Warnings against wearing Crocs on stairs, especially escalators, were issued in Australia last year. Several airports, train stations, and shopping malls have imposed bans on wearing Crocs. A four-year-old girl at Sydney Airport nearly lost her foot when it got stuck. Even Disney World in Florida joined the ban after (almost) gruesome accidents on escalators.
The manufacturer claims that they are not aware of any dangers posed by Crocs and have no data suggesting that Crocs are more dangerous than other footwear. Despite the boycott, sales of Crocs are still soaring, especially after Post Malone was photographed wearing them during the pandemic. He even had his own line of Crocs.
