Judge extends ban publication of 3D weapons

World August 27, 2018 21:00

washington - An American judge has ruled that the temporary ban on online publication of blueprints for 3D-printed small arms will be extended. The judge ruled that the ban continues until a final decision has been made in the case.

At the end of July, a judge issued the ban- which would expire on Tuesday. That happened a few hours before blueprints would come online via a Texan company, which made a settlement with the government before the publication.

Several states have gone to court. They believe that irreparable damage is caused when the designs of plastic weapons are put online.

The company relies on American fundamental rights as freedom of expression and the possession of weapons. But according to the judge, those arguments do not fall under the concerns of the states. According to the judge, too, there is insufficient substantiation of why the government has reached a settlement.
