Russians no longer take US astronauts with them

World August 31, 2018 14:32

- Russia will no longer take American astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) from 2019 onwards. That has been announced by the Vice Prime Minister of Russia Yury Borisov.

The contract expires in April and will probably not be extended.

The Americans paid $ 81 million per astronaut this year for a spot in the Russian Soyuz spacecraft. Ten years ago this was still more than $ 20 million per spot. The US space shuttle program ended in 2011.

The Americans are thinking of transporting astronauts to the ISS next year. They would use a SpaceX Dragon capsule for this.
