anderlecht - A shooting incident in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht resulted in one person dead. The suspect is believed to have fled on foot with a heavy weapon, presumably a Kalashnikov.
The police received a report of a shooting on Sunday evening at 8.50 pm. The incident took place on the terrace of a café directly opposite Aumale metro station on Sebastopolstraat. An attacker opened fire on several individuals sitting on the terrace.
The motive behind the shooting is still unclear. It could possibly be related to a settlement.
One man was severely injured. Bystanders attempted to resuscitate him, but he passed away at the scene. A second person was wounded, as confirmed by the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office. 'In the interest of the investigation, we cannot provide further comments at the moment,' spokesperson Yasmina Vanoverschelde told Het Nieuwsblad.
In September and October, the district was also shocked by two other shooting incidents.
