UNICEF Alarmed by Situation in Zamzam Refugee Camp
UNICEF has raised concerns about the catastrophic situation in the Sudanese refugee camp Zamzam located in North Darfur. The camp houses approximately 750,000 residents, half of whom are children. Estimates suggest that between half a million to a million refugees are living in the camp. The UN agency warns of a recent deterioration in the situation, with blocked access roads, depleting aid supplies, and lack of safe passage for humanitarian workers.
A civil war has been ongoing in Sudan since April 2023 between the military and the RSF. Nearly 13 million people are estimated to have fled the violence, according to the UN.
