Six Individuals Arrested for Climbing Cologne Cathedral
German police have apprehended six individuals who attempted to climb the famous Cologne Cathedral. The climbers, five French and one Belgian woman, tried to ascend the northern tower of the cathedral under moonlight while filming the act. A silent alarm alerted security personnel. As the police surrounded the cathedral, a police helicopter circled the tower with a searchlight, urging the climbers to descend immediately.
The climbers forcibly opened several doors and left backpacks and climbing gear inside the cathedral. The six individuals, aged between 18 and 27, were taken into custody for questioning and released on bail, pending a court appearance. Climbing the towers without permission is not only dangerous but can also cause damage to the centuries-old building.
