tbilisi - A recount of votes following the parliamentary elections in Georgia does not lead to significant changes to the election results, confirming the ruling party Georgian Dream as the winner.
A partial recount in several polling stations confirmed that the ruling party Georgian Dream is the winner, as announced by the electoral commission to press agency AFP.
The electoral commission decided on recounts after unrest arose over the victory of the Russia-friendly party. The opposition did not trust the results, and international criticism was also voiced about the election process. Critics also had little confidence in the recount.
The pro-European President Salome Zourabichvili, who is critical of the government, previously described the electoral commission as an extension of those in power. She leans towards an international investigation.
