South Korea's Opposition Delays Impeachment Motion Against Acting President Han Duck-soo
seoul - South Korea's main opposition party postpones motion to impeach acting president Han Duck-soo to Thursday amid ongoing disagreements over special legislations.
The main opposition party in South Korea, the Democratic Party (DP), has decided to wait until Thursday to file a motion to impeach acting president Han Duck-soo, reported by Yonhap. The DP previously stated its intention to submit the motion on Tuesday in protest against the acting leader's refusal to sign two special bills aimed at investigating his ousted predecessor, Yoon Suk-yeol.
DP leader Park Chan-dae stated, "We have decided to patiently wait and see if our demands are met on Thursday. Thursday is the last chance." The DP hopes Han appoints judges for the Constitutional Court on Thursday, which will make a decision on the impeachment motion against Yoon. Currently, three of the nine court seats are vacant. Han rejected the opposition's demand and called for a bipartisan agreement on the bills.
Yoon was removed from office by parliament on December 14 after declaring a state of military emergency in the country eleven days earlier following a political clash with the opposition.
