Shocking Explosion at Law Firm Startles Dutch Bar Association
amsterdam - The Dutch Bar Association (NOvA) expresses shock over another explosion at a law firm.
The general president of the association, Jeroen Soeteman, expresses his shock in a statement. He highlights the crucial role lawyers play in a democratic society. 'Lawyers must be able to do their work freely and safely at all times. Attacks on offices also affect the people who work there. This is very serious and must stop,' says Soeteman.
On Tuesday, police figures revealed 768 explosive incidents in the first nine months of this year, compared to 497 in the same period last year. The police also stated that an estimated over half of the explosions are not linked to crime but to disputes.
The motive behind the explosions at the law firms has not been disclosed yet. Cameras have been installed at the office in Amsterdam following the explosion.
The Hague police received reports of a loud bang on Laan van Meerdervoort around 10:00 pm on Tuesday. The law firm building was found to have been damaged by an explosion. The police urge witnesses to come forward and particularly call on residents with CCTV footage. They also seek information from individuals with knowledge of any (criminal or social) conflicts related to this explosion.
