Two Mexican soldiers fired at a pick-up truck carrying migrants at the border with Guatemala, leaving six people dead and ten other migrants injured. The soldiers believed the migrants to be criminals, according to the Mexican Ministry of Defense.

The soldiers have been relieved of their duties and handed over to federal prosecutors for legal action, the ministry reported. The military court is also conducting an investigation.

The truck was transporting migrants from Egypt, Nepal, Cuba, India, and Pakistan. The countries of origin of the deceased migrants have not yet been disclosed.

The incident took place in the city of Huixtla, approximately 40 kilometers from the border town of Tapachula in the southern state of Chiapas. Chiapas is a common entry point for migrants into Mexico, often aiming to travel to the United States. The region has seen a lot of violence due to the battle between two cartels.
