The man, of Syrian origin residing in Austria, admitted to transporting 22 migrants from Turkey and Syria in a minibus from Austria to the German state of Bavaria in October 2023.

During the journey, the vehicle collided with roadblocks at high speed, resulting in the deaths of seven occupants. Among the deceased was a 6-year-old girl.
