Iranian President Pezeşkiyan Warned for Reading Turkish Poetry
During a cultural event in Iran, President Pezeşkiyan was warned by officials for reading a Turkish poem by famous Azerbaijani poet Şehriyar.
Pezeşkiyan, known for his pride in Turkish heritage, recited a poem in Azerbaijani Turkish, causing a moment of tension as officials interrupted, citing language diversity in the audience.
Despite the warning, Pezeşkiyan continued reading the poem, asserting the importance of celebrating the Turkish language and culture.
Former Iranian President Ahmedinejad had a similar experience in 2006 when he recited Şehriyar's poem in Azeri Turkish during a visit to Tabriz, receiving applause from the audience.
In a recent interview, Pezeşkiyan reiterated his pride in his Turkish identity, emphasizing that he speaks Turkish at home with his children.
