Investigation: Matt Gaetz paid for sex with underage girl
washington - An investigation reveals that Matt Gaetz, a former US Congress member, paid for sex with a minor girl, according to a US congressional committee.
Matt Gaetz, who was designated by the incoming US President Donald Trump as Minister of Justice, has reportedly paid for sex with a minor girl during his time as a parliamentarian. This was revealed in a long-awaited investigation by a US congressional committee.
The 42-year-old Gaetz withdrew as a candidate for the ministerial post following the controversy and is no longer a member of the House of Representatives. Trump's announcement of Gaetz's inclusion in his government sparked significant turmoil, even within the Republican Party, as the accusations against him are not new.
After a week as a ministerial candidate, Gaetz declared that his appointment was 'too much of a distraction' for the transition of power, leading him to drop out of consideration. There were doubts about whether he had garnered enough support in Congress.
Following this, Gaetz attempted to prevent the House Ethics Committee from disclosing the investigation into his misconduct. The report reveals that between 2017 and 2020, he paid over $90,000 to twelve women for sex and/or drugs. Gaetz denies violating parliamentary rules.
