A German tourist, Michael Jurcen, was fatally attacked by a wild elephant in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu, India. The elephant was blocking the road, and despite warnings from other motorists, Jurcen attempted to overtake the animal, leading to a fatal encounter.
Onlookers captured the incident on video as Jurcen was thrown off his vehicle by the elephant. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Incidents of wildlife attacks are not uncommon in the region, with approximately thirty thousand wild elephants roaming the country.
