Critical Claim in Syria: Northern Opposition Allegedly Reached Agreement with HTS
syria - Allegations suggest that armed groups in northern Syria, including the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army, have reached an agreement with Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the group controlling the new administration after the fall of the Assad regime.
According to reports in Syrian media, the Ministry of Defense rejected any proposal that would give any armed group sectarian, religious, or regional characteristics. It is stated that commanders of the US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) will have a special status within the Ministry of Defense to benefit from their expertise, and plans are underway to establish a professional army based on volunteers instead of compulsory military service in the country.
In the midst of ongoing clashes between the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army and the Syrian branch of the PKK, PYD/YPG in northern Syria, a crucial visit took place from the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq (KRG). According to information obtained by Rudaw, a news site close to KRG, Mesud Barzani's special envoy Abdulhamid Derbendi is set to meet with the so-called leader of PYD/YPG, Mazlum Abdi in Hasakah. Derbendi is then expected to proceed to Qamishli to meet with officials of the Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS). The visit coincides with intensified unity efforts among Syrian Kurdish groups. Last week, Barzani received a delegation from ENKS in Erbil, emphasizing the need for a common vision on the rights of the Kurdish people.
