German Man Commits Murder to Get Imprisoned
A 30-year-old German man from Nastätten, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, stabbed a beggar to death in March 2024 in a bid to get arrested and escape his worries. The unemployed man, facing homelessness, believed prison was the solution.
Desperate Act for Shelter
On March 7, 2024, he armed himself with a kitchen knife and targeted a vulnerable victim in Frankfurt's station area. His victim, a 49-year-old amputee beggar, weighed just over 40 kilos. After a brief conversation, the assailant attacked the beggar from behind, stabbing him multiple times.
The presiding judge in the jury trial clarified that the motive behind the murder was the perpetrator's desire to seek refuge in prison and escape his troubles. Despite his defense attorney's plea for a manslaughter conviction with a 5 to 7-year prison term, the Frankfurt court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the heinous crime.
