In Kazakhstan, a chain reaction accident involving 95 vehicles took place due to worsening weather conditions on the Astana-Petropavlovsk highway around 07:20 local time today. According to a statement by the road construction company KazAvtoJol, traffic restrictions were imposed on a section of the highway due to the deteriorating weather conditions.
After the weather improved and the roads were cleared, traffic flow towards the capital city of Astana was restored under the supervision of traffic police. The statement mentioned that around 13:28 near the village of Janatalap, a chain reaction accident occurred involving approximately 95 vehicles due to drivers not adhering to speed limits and safe distances.
An announcement by the Akmola region police department stated that 11 people were injured in the chain reaction accident.
Following the accident, it was reported that one lane was completely cleared and traffic flow resumed. The statement also mentioned that cleanup efforts are ongoing.
