riyad - Saudi Arabia has executed 198 convicted individuals in 2024, making it one of the highest-ranking countries in terms of number of death penalties carried out.
Saudi Arabia has executed 198 convicted individuals in 2024, according to a report by the French news agency AFP based on official media coverage. Amnesty International has been keeping a record of executions in the wealthy Gulf kingdom since 1990, known for its strict Islamic laws. The human rights organization states that Saudi Arabia was the third country in the world in terms of number of death penalties carried out last year, after China and Iran.
The imposition of the death penalty by Riyadh has long been criticized internationally as excessive and not in line with Saudi Arabia's efforts to present itself as a modern and reform-minded nation.
