Dozens dead and missing due to floods in Nepal
kathmandu - At least 66 people have died in Nepal as a result of heavy flooding and landslides, with dozens more missing due to the severe monsoon rains.
Officials reported 69 people missing, with many regions of the Himalayan country yet to provide information. Over a thousand flood victims in the Kathmandu Valley were rescued by emergency responders, with sixty of them sustaining injuries.
Authorities held an emergency meeting on Saturday to assess the situation, coordinate rescue and relief efforts, and intensify search operations. The weather is expected to remain inclement in the coming days, following unusually heavy rain that began on Thursday.
In addition to the high death toll and missing persons, infrastructure in many areas has suffered extensive damage. Flight operations were severely disrupted, and road transportation was also affected, with thousands of homes submerged in water.
