US Declares South African Ambassador Persona Non Grata
South African ambassador to the US, Ebrahim Rasool, labeled persona non grata by the Trump administration for allegedly fueling racial tensions and displaying animosity towards President Donald Trump.
Senator Rubio stated that Rasool's negative sentiments towards the US and President Trump led to the decision of revoking his welcome in Washington, claiming there is no further dialogue needed with him.
Reportedly, this is Rasool's second term in Washington, as per the South African embassy's website. Both the US Department of State and the South African embassy in Washington have yet to respond to requests for comments.
Deteriorating relations between the US and South Africa escalated after President Trump halted American financial aid to the country. One of the reasons cited by Trump was South Africa's legal action against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
