Removal of Escobar's Portrait in Medellin
In Colombia, the portrait of notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar that was painted on a wall in the Buenos Aires neighborhood, known as 'Pablo Escobar Neighborhood,' was removed by municipal authorities. The Mayor of Medellin, Federico Gutierrez, shared the moment on his social media.
Gutierrez explained that this action was not to erase history but to focus on the victims and heroes of the story rather than the perpetrators. The neighborhood, a significant location frequently visited by tourists, was built by Escobar during a political campaign in 1982.
Escobar, who died in a police shootout on December 2, 1993, is remembered as the leader of the Medellin Cartel.
