North Korea has confirmed the testing of a new hypersonic missile. The projectile is said to have traveled a distance of 1500 kilometers at twelve times the speed of sound, as claimed by the state news agency KCNA. Dictator Kim Jong-un is reported to have personally overseen the launch.
Earlier, the democratically governed neighboring country South Korea also reported observing such a test. The South Korean military stated that the missile landed in the sea after traveling about 1100 kilometers.
The dictatorship of North Korea has often caused international unrest by conducting missile tests. Hypersonic missiles are capable of changing course, making them harder to intercept.
North Korea is currently providing military support to neighboring country Russia. It has sent thousands of troops to assist the Russian armed forces in the conflict against Ukraine and is also reportedly supplying weapons.
