yemen - Houthis, with Iranian support, claim to have targeted the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea. The group's military spokesman also mentioned attacks on Israeli territories.

Houthis, backed by Iran, announced that they targeted the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea. The group's Military Spokesman Yahya Seri stated that they conducted missile and drone attacks on the US Navy's aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea. Seri claimed that these attacks were carried out while the US was preparing for major air strikes on Yemen.

Moreover, he expressed that they prevented the planned US attacks on Yemen with this action. He also mentioned that they conducted drone attacks on Israeli territories of Jaffa and Ashkelon during daylight hours.

Seri threatened to continue targeting Israel, which continues its attacks and blockade in the Gaza Strip.

In Yemen, Houthis supported by Iran have been seizing commercial ships belonging to Israeli companies in the Yemeni waters since October 31, 2023, and some have been targeted with drones and missiles.

Following these actions, many shipping companies decided to halt their voyages in the Red Sea.

Due to the perceived threat to global maritime security, the US announced the formation of a multinational naval task force called the "Welfare Guardian Operation" against Houthi forces on December 18, 2023. Additionally, Houthis declared that they will target all vessels belonging to the US and the UK in response to attacks on their controlled areas in Yemen.
