rome - The Italian police have reopened the investigation into a disappearance case full of mysteries from 1980, aiming to uncover the truth behind a possible unsolved double murder.

Two individuals, involved in the restoration of a house in the Italian town of Sarnano, vanished during a trip to Sassotetto in the Monte Sibillini mountains in November 1980 amidst a snowstorm. The last person to see them, a surveyor, alerted the police when they failed to return. Despite search efforts with helicopters and sniffer dogs, the missing women were not located.

Fourteen months later, hunters discovered severely decomposed bodies believed to have been attacked by wild boars. Autopsies revealed signs of hypothermia, raising doubts about the circumstances surrounding their deaths. A potential murder case was not ruled out by the authorities.

Subsequent events involved the arrest and subsequent release of a Brazilian gem trader. In 1982, a Roman antique dealer linked to Jeanette Bishop, one of the missing women, was found murdered in London. Bishop was associated with various mysteries of that era, including the Vatican Bank scandal involving Archbishop Marcinkus, the murder of banker Roberto Calvi in London, the P2 Masonic lodge, and the disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi.

The current investigation has identified new leads. Approximately ten individuals, acquainted with both women and the area where they were last seen, are set to be interrogated. Among them are the surveyor who reported the disappearance, construction workers, and hunters. Colonel Raffaele Ruocco of the Macerata public prosecutor's office highlighted the significance of reevaluating the case, expressing hope for a resolution. Public prosecutor Fabrizio Narbone emphasized the urgency of uncovering the truth before it's too late.

Sarnano Mayor Fabio Fantegrossi described the case as shrouded in mystery, captivating the town for years and sparking widespread speculation among the locals.
