moscow - More and more airlines are suspending flights to Russian cities following the recent crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines aircraft. Turkmenistan Airlines announced on Saturday that regular flights between Ashgabat and Moscow will be halted until the end of January, without explaining the reason for this decision.
Other airlines such as flydubai from the United Arab Emirates, El Al from Israel, and Qazaq Air from Kazakhstan had already suspended flights in the aftermath of this week's incident. The Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, resulting in the loss of dozens of lives.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The United States has suggested that there are indications the passenger plane was hit by Russian air defenses. Azerbaijani authorities also speculate that the aircraft might have been targeted by a weapon.
