Millionaire's Wife Fakes Watch Theft: The Patek Philippe Was Just in Her Rolls Royce
belgium - A millionaire's wife in Belgium was caught lying about a watch theft, as the Patek Philippe was found in her car. How did the police uncover the truth?
The Belgian woman tearfully walked into the police station claiming she had lost her watch worth 43,000 euros. She alleged that she was robbed in broad daylight in the city center by 'four North African youths' as reported in French media.
Upon examining surveillance footage, the authorities noticed the wealthy woman parking her Rolls Royce in the city. She got out, removed her watch, and placed it in the trunk. Minutes later, she showed up at the police station in tears.
According to Nice Matin, the judge presiding over her case was 'not amused'. 'What possessed you?', the newspaper quoted the judge. 'The police have better things to do than investigate false claims. Besides, you do not seem to be in need.'
The woman, Coline, resides in Monaco with her husband, a horse breeder from Kortenberg, and owns a horse stable in Antibes. Coline, a former equestrian champion, is married to a wealthy contractor and waste processor from Flemish Brabant, according to Het Laatste Nieuws.
Nice-Matin reported that the couple owns eight cars, including a McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes, in addition to the Rolls Royce. They also have an impressive real estate portfolio, comprising two flats in Monaco, around thirty apartments in France, and a vacation home in Cap d'Agde. Coline's social media features photos with celebrities such as Prince Albert of Monaco, F1 driver Fernando Alonso, and the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.
'I was very angry with my insurer. They are always there to collect premiums but never to compensate for damages,' Coline retorted. Her French lawyer explained that the false report stemmed from a dispute with her insurer after part of her stable was flooded. 'She did not make the false claim out of financial desperation, but to extract money from the insurance. She realized her mistake too late.'
The false report resulted in a 15,000 euro fine for Coline. She is also required to repay the 9,000 euros received as compensation for the allegedly stolen watch. Her lawyer declined to comment further.
