Authorities Uncover Mass Grave in Libya
In a recent raid on a human trafficking site in southeastern Libya, authorities discovered a mass grave containing the bodies of 28 migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa. The operation also led to the rescue of 76 migrants who were being held captive and subjected to torture.
Libya has long been criticized for its treatment of migrants and refugees, with allegations ranging from extortion to slavery. Last year, a mass grave containing at least 65 bodies of migrants was found in southwestern Libya, as reported by the International Organization for Migration of the United Nations.
Located approximately 300 kilometers from Italy, Libya serves as a significant departure point for migrants, predominantly from Sub-Saharan African countries, who embark on perilous journeys across the Mediterranean Sea in hopes of reaching Europe.
