portugal - Christian Brückner, the main suspect in the disappearance case of Maddie McCann, reportedly confessed to having kidnapped a child from an apartment in Portugal.

Christian Brückner, a 47-year-old convicted pedophile, allegedly confessed to a fellow inmate, Laurentiu Codin, in a German court that he once abducted a child from an apartment in Portugal. Codin revealed that Brückner asked him if he was also imprisoned for crimes involving children, to which Brückner admitted to his own crime. Brückner claimed that he broke into an apartment in Portugal to steal money but ended up taking 'a child' when he found none. He also requested Codin to set his house on fire once released from prison.

"He said he had a bus where he took the girl. Then he had sex with her, but he claimed he did not kill her," Codin testified in court. Brückner did not confirm if it was indeed Maddie. This is the second witness statement where Brückner allegedly confesses his actions. Brückner and Codin were incarcerated together in 2020.

Brückner is facing charges of three rapes and two offenses against children, all occurring in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. These cases are unrelated to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. The convicted pedophile lived just outside Praia da Luz for ten years, where Madeleine vanished at the age of three. He was officially named a suspect in 2022 but continues to deny any involvement in the case.
