blaine, washington - A man from Blaine, Washington survived for a month in North Cascades National Park by eating mushrooms, berries, and drinking river water.

A man from Blaine, Washington, has managed to survive in the North Cascades National Park by eating mushrooms, berries, and drinking river water. He told People in an interview that he felt "really close to death" when he was about to shout for help. Fortunately, this caught the attention of members of the Pacific Northwest Trail Association, who eventually rescued him.

According to Schock's mother, Jan Thompson, he did not have any supplies for an overnight stay in the park. After several unsuccessful search attempts, Thompson continued to hope that her son would be found alive. Schock survived by feeding on berries, a certain type of large mushrooms, and drinking water from the river.

Schock says the experience has made him "a few years" older, but he is physically recovering "fairly well" after gaining over 40 pounds since his dramatic rescue. He has vowed not to return to the North Cascades National Park, at least not in the near future.
