Jewish Youth Footballers Attacked in Berlin by Mob with Sticks and Knives
berlin - Authorities in Berlin demand strict consequences for those who attacked Jewish youth footballers in the German capital.
The Berlin authorities are demanding harsh consequences for those who attacked Jewish youth footballers in the German capital. According to a father of one of the players, the team from TuS Makkabi was insulted, spat on, and chased by opponents and spectators with sticks and knives after the match. They reportedly shouted "Free Palestine" repeatedly.
These actions show that anti-Semitic violence and discrimination "have not disappeared from our city either," said Berlin's Senator for Internal Affairs, Iris Spranger. She made these remarks during the commemoration of the Nazi-led pogrom against Jews on November 9, 1938. She warned that anyone who attacks people can expect the full force of the rule of law.
According to the chairman of the national Makkabi club, the youth players were attacked and chased after a match against DJK Schwarz-Weiss Neukölln from Berlin.
The Berlin club has a name very similar to the Israeli team that played in Amsterdam on Thursday evening, Maccabi Tel Aviv. Serious disturbances occurred after the match.
