Exchange Crisis: Israel Postpones Release of Palestinian Prisoners
Israel continues to violate the ceasefire agreement with Hamas by delaying the release of 620 Palestinian prisoners, while 6 Israeli hostages have been freed. The first phase of the exchange deal took place partially in Gaza, with the release of Ilya Cohen, Omer Shem Tov, Omer Finkert, Tal Shoham, Avera Mengistu, and Hisham al-Sayed. However, Israel announced the postponement of the release of Palestinian prisoners following a security meeting led by Prime Minister Netanyahu. Hamas accuses Israel of trying to alter the list of prisoners to be released. The crisis was further complicated by the mistaken identity of one of the bodies handed over to Israel, which was clarified by Hamas by returning Shiri Bibas' remains to the Red Cross. Shiri Bibas and her children, who were abducted in October 2023 and reportedly killed in an Israeli attack, were at the center of the funeral crisis.
