Hezbollah's New Leader Naim Qassem Vows Strong Stance Against Israel
beirut, lebanon - Hezbollah has appointed Naim Qassem as the new leader, following the death of Hassan Nasrallah. Qassem is well-known within the terrorist group and has already made bold statements regarding the conflict with Israel.
Hezbollah has named Naim Qassem as its new leader, succeeding Hassan Nasrallah who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. Qassem, who has been the second-in-command since 1991, is not a stranger to the group. He played a significant role in establishing Hezbollah in 1982 and has led the Shiite school network of the organization for years. In 2005, he authored a book on Hezbollah's history.
Qassem, considered one of the primary spokespersons within the group, was elected as the new leader by the Shura Council. He frequently engages with foreign media, often criticizing Israel's 'cross-border hostility'.
During an interview with NBC on April 18, Qassem expressed surprise at the prolonged conflict, attributing it to the actions of Netanyahu and Biden. He condemned Israeli offensives in Lebanon and warned of retaliation if the attacks escalate.
Hezbollah and Israel have exchanged airstrikes over the past two years, with Hezbollah claiming solidarity with Gaza. Qassem stated that they will continue these actions but will only engage in a direct confrontation if provoked by Israel.
The Israeli military is targeting Qassem, similar to past operations against Hezbollah commanders. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant downplayed Qassem's threat level, implying a short-lived leadership.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has warned that any successor to Nasrallah is also at risk. It is evident that Israel is closely monitoring the developments within Hezbollah leadership.
