The German Foreign Ministry has revealed that visa applications can now be made digitally in 28 categories. Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock described the digital visa procedure as a long-awaited significant administrative revolution. Starting today, digital applications can be made worldwide using the national visa procedure portal.
A digital transformation has been implemented at all 167 visa centers worldwide, enabling digital applications in 28 categories for German visas. This will result in saving time on long postal delivery processes and reducing waiting times.
Highlighting the annual shortage of at least 400,000 qualified workers in Germany, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized not impeding the best candidates from helping the country due to paperwork intensity and long waiting times. Baerbock also referred to the digital visa procedure as a significant administrative revolution that has been long-requested.
Visa applications can now be submitted in German or English through the dedicated website created for this process.
