Audio Recording Reveals Fatal Implosion
An audio recording capturing the fatal implosion of the mini-submarine Titan has been released, more than a year and a half after the accident. The recording, registered by a sound recorder of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) 1450 kilometers from the accident site, was posted on defense websites on Friday.
The five occupants, including British billionaire Hamish Harding (58), American co-founder Stockton Rush (61) of the organizing shipping company OceanGate, Pakistani investor Shahzada (48) and his son Suleman Dawood (19), and French sailor Paul-Henry Nargeolet (77), were on their way to the Titanic wreck at a depth of 3800 meters in the Atlantic Ocean on that Sunday.
They had been two hours into their expedition when the tragedy occurred. The U.S. Coast Guard had received the message 'all good here' from the Titan shortly before. It turned out to be the last sign of life.
The implosion was caused by the fact that the vessel could not withstand the immense pressure underwater. The Titan was not designed to descend to such depths. Investigation also revealed that the hull of the submarine had never been inspected by an external company. The wreckage of the mini-submarine, with the five deceased occupants, was found four days after the accident following a search operation. OceanGate subsequently suspended its operations. The company had started submarine expeditions to the wreck of the mythical passenger ship in 2021.
