brussels - Netherlands and France join forces to combat anti-Semitism in Europe, with a focus on concrete actions rather than just words. A crisis situation is acknowledged with calls for urgent measures.

Netherlands and France have come together to tackle the rising wave of anti-Semitism in Europe, following a recent spate of incidents. In a special meeting held in Brussels, ministers from various European countries gathered to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in combating anti-Semitism. French Minister Benjamin Haddad emphasized the need for immediate action, highlighting the threat to European liberal democracies.

The meeting was attended by ministers from Germany, Portugal, Poland, and Sweden, along with EU Commissioner Věra Jourová and European Coordinator for Combating Anti-Semitism, Katharina von Schnurbein. Despite previous statements from EU ministers, the emphasis is now on translating words into action.

Dutch Minister Veldkamp stressed the importance of concrete steps to address anti-Semitic incidents, pointing out the lack of condemnations for such acts. He highlighted the significance of education and the potential role of European regulations in addressing anti-Semitism on social media. Veldkamp characterized the situation in Europe as a crisis, citing a significant increase in anti-Semitic incidents across the continent.

Ministers also discussed the international dimension of anti-Semitism, noting instances where foreign actors have fueled division through anti-Semitic actions. Veldkamp referenced incidents in France and Sweden involving external influences, underlining the need to address this aspect in addition to domestic efforts.
