new york - Chinese hackers linked to American telecom systems breached the phones of family members of former President Donald Trump and campaign staff of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Chinese hackers with ties to American telecom systems targeted the phones of family members of former President Donald Trump and campaign staff of Vice President Kamala Harris, according to sources familiar with the investigation reported by The New York Times.
The hackers attempted to access the phones of Eric Trump, the former president's son, and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law. They also focused on phones of diplomats and high officials handling topics of interest to China.
A staff member of Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer of New York was also among the targets. The New York Times previously reported that the hackers were trying to infiltrate Trump's and running mate J. D. Vance's phones.
The hack was discovered earlier in the year and leaked to the media in early October. Whether the hackers successfully penetrated individual phones is still unknown. FBI investigators believe they may have accessed SMS messages and call logs.
