la paz - The Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that supporters of former president Evo Morales have reportedly taken at least two hundred soldiers hostage on Friday in the province of Chapare.

The Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that on Friday, three military units in the province of Chapare were attacked by irregular groups, resulting in the hostage-taking of over two hundred soldiers.

Earlier on Friday, military sources informed AFP that armed supporters of Morales had kidnapped twenty soldiers. The situation in Bolivia has been tense for weeks with Morales' supporters protesting against legal proceedings targeting the former president, which have included road blockades.

Among the investigations against Morales are allegations of rape, human trafficking, and smuggling. These legal actions are believed to be orchestrated by the government of Morales' political rival, Luis Arce.
