Zelenski Regrets Confrontation with Trump
Ukrainian President Zelenski expressed regret for the heated confrontation with US President Trump, stating that he was not sure if they had done anything wrong. The rift occurred after Trump abruptly ended a meeting in the Oval Office. Zelenski hoped for more support from Trump in dealing with the conflict with Russia.
Zelenski acknowledged that the relationship with Trump can be repaired, but he did not offer any apologies during the Fox News interview. Despite being asked twice, he avoided directly addressing the issue of apologizing, emphasizing the need for honesty.
Following criticism that he was ungrateful, Zelenski began the interview by thanking the American people for their support. He reiterated his commitment to not give up and to resist Russian aggression, expressing respect for Ukrainian soldiers and rejecting the idea of resigning.
Both Trump and Zelenski commented on the incident, with Trump expressing confusion over Zelenski's behavior and stating that he wanted someone who could make peace. Zelenski's interview on Fox News was intended to initiate reconciliation, but the situation escalated leading to the cancellation of further meetings and events.
Zelenski's appearance on Fox News followed discussions with European leaders, including NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, before flying to London for the Ukraine summit. European leaders expressed support for Zelenski via social media platforms.
