According to the recent announcement by the German World Population Foundation (DSW), the world population has seen an increase of 82 million in 2024 compared to the previous year. The DSW pointed out that the population growth is more prominent in Africa, predicting that the number of people living in Africa could more than double over the next 20 years. Experts suggest that by the end of this century, the population of Africa could rise from 1.2 billion to 3.4 billion.
It is estimated that as of the new year, there will be a total of 8 billion 56 million people in the world. Despite the ongoing population increase, the growth rate is said to be slowing down, with an average of 2.2 children for women worldwide.
Back in November 2022, the world population had surpassed 8 billion. A statement by the United Nations indicated that the world population could exceed the 9 billion mark by the year 2037. However, the DSW reported that the world population could reach 10 billion in the 2080s.
It was noted that Germany's population remained stable throughout the year at around 84 million.
