American woman Mary Cooper returns a book borrowed in 1926 by her late grandfather to Ocean County library.

Discovery of the Book

  • Mary Cooper found 'Home-Made Toys for Girls and Boys' by A. Neely Hall while going through her mother's belongings.
  • The book was borrowed in March 1926 by her grandfather, Charles Tilton, a year before his death.

Library's Response

Ocean County library receives the book as it celebrates its 100th anniversary.

The library no longer issues fines for late returns but estimates returning this book could have cost $18,000.

The book is now displayed in a glass case at the library.
