Lane-Fournier was reported missing by her colleagues on November 22 when she didn't show up for work. A day later, a close friend noticed Susan's car parked by Green Canyon Way Trail in the forest. Search teams, including over twenty volunteers, scoured the difficult terrain to find her.
Susan's body was found near their house in Brightwood. Two dead dogs were also found in the area. Officials confirm that the couple was still married at the time of her death, but Lane-Fournier had filed for divorce just two weeks before her disappearance.
According to neighbor Betty Swan-DeLong, 'Many people were talking about domestic violence.' A colleague of Susan mentioned that she had expressed fear for her life before her disappearance: 'In the last few weeks before she went missing, she feared for her life. That's why she always had the dogs with her.'
