White House announces ceasefire in Gaza
washington, d.c. - US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that they are very close to a ceasefire in Gaza, with the possibility of an agreement this week.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced that they are very close to a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and that the deal could be reached this week. Speaking at a press briefing at the White House, Sullivan made evaluations regarding the foreign policy of the Biden administration.
Sullivan expressed strong support for Israel in the Middle East and stated that enemies like Iran have been significantly weakened.
Optimistic about the ceasefire process in Gaza, Sullivan said, "We are very close to a ceasefire agreement, the agreement could be finalized this week. I am not making a promise or a prediction, but we will work for it to happen."
Sullivan stated that with this ceasefire agreement, it would be possible for prisoners to return to their homes, for a significant amount of aid to enter Gaza, and for a more positive atmosphere that could open up the way for a political process.
Indicating that negotiations on the final details, especially regarding the release of prisoners, between the parties have reached a conclusion, Sullivan said, "The parties are very close to finalizing this agreement. The coming hours and days will show whether we can conclude the agreement. However, I believe everything is ready for this to happen."
Although they have come to the final stages of the ceasefire agreement, Sullivan pointed out that no agreement should be considered finished until it is completed. The US National Security Advisor said, "If this does not happen in the remaining 5 days of the Biden administration, I will probably be the least surprised person. However, I think the chance of finalizing this agreement is very high."
Sullivan mentioned that US President Joe Biden met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday and with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani today. He also stated that Biden will meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and emphasized the intense diplomatic efforts for the ceasefire agreement.
