vlissingen - Police discovered a variety of weapons during preventive searches in the Zeeland city of Vlissingen.
Since mid-September, a safety risk area has been established in part of the city. This decision came after shootings that led to a sense of insecurity among residents, according to the municipality.
Since then, the police have searched six hundred people on twelve control days. It was reported that measures were taken to prevent ethnic profiling, such as selecting every fourth or sixth person passing by. In addition to weapons, three cobras and thirteen cases of drug possession were also discovered. Nearly all individuals received a fine or a penal order (a punishment imposed without the suspect having to appear in court) after surrendering their weapon.
